A 1968 graduate, Wayne was a multi-sport athlete serving as a football, basketball, track, and baseball team member.  As a Carroll Dragon Football player, Wayne received All-State recognition in 1967 and 1968. Wayne set the record for rushing over 1000 yards all four years, scoring over 100 touchdowns, and serving as the only extra-point kicker. During the 1965 season, Wayne was the only freshman to play on varsity. 

Upon graduating, Wayne would serve the Dallas Fire Department and be known as the youngest Captain in the Dallas Fire Department at 28 years old, which is a record that still stands today. During his 42 years with Dallas Fire Department, Wayne not only served Texas communities but played an integral part during 911 as a first responder when he traveled  to New York City. 

In 2012, Wayne lost his battle with Leukemia.
